I’ve always wondered if the acting methods are the same in theater and in tv and film. I’ve noticed that the actors overact in theater and people think it’s good acting, but when they overact in movies and on tv, people think it’s bad. Is there a difference?

overacting is bad period. In theater you usually project your voice and you grab the audiences attention. You move around alot and in most cases you need voice lessons to make your voice sound approiate for the part.
In movies and tv you are acting with your cast and hoping the consumers like so people do tend to overact. And some times on tv it’s in front of an audience so it is almost the same as theater

Well, The audience is farther away in theatre than Tv, so the gestures and persona must be bigger. In Tv, the acting just has to be small, enough for a close camera. To me (altho, im biased, im a theatre actress), theatre acting takes more skill to pull off without looking done, tacky or too fake, but still be receptible by the audience.
